Château d'Écouen at a glance
The Musée national de la Renaissance is housed in the Château d'Écouen, in the Val-d'Oise north of Paris. You reach it by line H from Paris-Nord to Écouen-Ézanville and a short bus ride. The museum is a public museum, and this guide is independent: it is not run by the museum or the town.
A building project (2023 to 2026) is changing the visit. A provisional entrance sits behind the château, some rooms are closed, and fragile works are in storage. Expect a partial visit, and treat the information below as the published state for 2026.

What the works change in 2026
Four points to read before you go.
Lower price
Because of the facade works, the entry price is currently €6 instead of the regular €8. The reduced rate is also €6.
Entrance behind the château
The works entrance is at the rear of the château. Follow the signs on arrival rather than heading for the main front.
Rooms and works not on view
Some rooms are closed, and delicate works are in storage, among them the hanging known as the Tenture de David et Bethsabée. No firm completion date for October is published, so do not plan around the full collection.
Cars on weekdays
On weekdays, vehicles cannot enter the grounds because of work on the main portal. That also limits parking close to the entrance for visitors with reduced mobility.

Getting to Écouen from Paris
Take line H from Paris-Nord to Écouen-Ézanville. The museum gives about 25 minutes for the train. Then take bus 269 towards Garges-Sarcelles for about 5 minutes to the stop Mairie/Château. The bus stop at the station has been moved because of building works, so follow the signs on site.
By car, there is a visitor car park at the château. Weekday restrictions apply during the works. For fares and the tariff reform, see Getting there.
On Tuesday the museum is closed but the free park stays open. Animals are not allowed in the park, even on a leash.

Plan a half day around the château
The museum holds stained glass, such as the example in the photo. Which rooms you see on the day depends on the works. A simple order for the visit follows.
Morning
Reach the museum before 12:45 p.m. so that you have time inside. Use the entrance at the rear, and keep your proof of age if you claim free entry.
Midday
The museum closes at 12:45 p.m. and reopens at 2 p.m. Use the break for the park, which is free.
Afternoon
The museum is open until 5:15 p.m. in October. Leave time for the walk back to the bus stop.
