La Roche-Guyon at a glance

La Roche-Guyon sits on the Seine in the Val-d'Oise, below a chalk cliff. The village is listed on the website of the association Les Plus Beaux Villages de France. That is an association label, not a UNESCO status. Its main sight is the Château de La Roche-Guyon with its historic kitchen garden, the Potager-fruitier, which lies between the château and the river.

This guide is independent. It is not run by the château, the village or a tourist office. Hours and prices are the published ones for 2026 and can change, so check them before a long trip.

Good to know this autumn

Three things that change a visit in October 2026 and after.

Road barriers on October weekends

From 3 October to 1 November 2026 the village announces closed barriers on weekends, from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., on Rue du docteur Duval, Rue Paul Dauvergne and Rue du Quai. This is local access information, not a closure of the château. If you drive, use the municipal car park at the village entrance.

Hunting in the regional forest

The 2026/27 hunting season began on 13 October. On certain Tuesdays and Thursdays until March, affected sectors of the Forêt régionale de La Roche-Guyon are signposted and restricted. In one lot, rabbit hunting can also take place on weekends. Keep dogs on a leash, stay on the paths and avoid closed sectors.

Winter opening is short

The published 2026 opening periods are 1 April to 1 November and 5 December 2026 to 3 January 2027 (1 p.m. to 7 p.m.). Do not count on daily opening outside these dates, and check the château's calendar first.

Château de La Roche-Guyon: tickets and rules

The château is the reason most people come. Tickets are sold until one hour before closing. Allow time for the château, the Potager and the village.

Inside, you pass a security check. Strollers are not allowed in the château, and there is no place to leave them at the entrance. Animals, even on a leash, are not allowed in the château or in the Potager. The château includes a troglodyte gallery, and the keep rises above the building. Check at the ticket office what your ticket covers, including the garden.

Walks along the Coteaux de la Seine

The Seine slopes around the village belong to a national nature reserve of 268 hectares, the Coteaux de la Seine. It runs across the communes of Vétheuil, Haute-Isle, La Roche-Guyon, Gommecourt and Bennecourt. Between 1 March and 30 June, access to the rock pinnacles in Haute-Isle is strictly forbidden. That rule covers those rocks, not every path in the reserve.

The regional nature park's hiking portal shows trails on a map. This page does not give a standard loop with a length or walking time. Check the current route and any sector closure before you set out. For the wider area, see the Vexin guide.

Getting to La Roche-Guyon

No direct train. Plan for a bus.

By train and bus

Take a train from Paris-Saint-Lazare to Mantes-la-Jolie, then bus 1119 to the village. The connection time and the total journey depend on the bus timetable, so check it for your day.

By car

From the A15, take the D14 via Magny-en-Vexin, or leave the A13 at exit 11 and continue towards Limay and Vétheuil. The municipal car park is at the village entrance. Check the sign for the current fee.

Plan the day

Count the château, the Potager and a short walk in the village as a half day. In the garden and on the village streets, dress for the weather.
